Ten thousand steps

Comfortable shoes, but make them pretty.

On why every outfit I own now starts from the ground up.

I spent most of my twenties in shoes that hurt. Heels for work, boots for weather, and a pair of white trainers I kept for "casual" and never actually wore because they looked like gym kit. Then I started walking everywhere and my feet filed a complaint.

The shift was a pair of grey Asics. Not the neon kind. The soft, washed-out kind that reads like a pebble. I wore them with jeans on the first day and stopped thinking about my feet for the first time in years. That was the whole point.

Now the rule is simple. If I cannot walk ten thousand steps in it, it does not come home with me. What is below are the neutral sneakers I reach for, the outfits I wear them with, and the pairs that survived a full day of standing.

Below is every pair I love right now, grouped by what you are doing in them. Some are investment-ish. Some are under $100. All of them go with denim, linen, and whatever else is already in your wardrobe.
