A little shine

For the love of chrome.

On why a single silver object can make a whole room feel pulled together.

I tried to be a gold girl for years. It is so aesthetic. The warm glow, the vintage-y moment. But chrome and silver? That is my first love.

I used to think chrome was cold. Too office-building, too futuristic, too much like the waiting room of a very expensive dentist. Then I started collecting small silver objects. A frame here. A lamp there. A dish that held nothing but my rings and one pair of earrings. Slowly the metal stopped feeling sterile and started feeling like punctuation.

The thing about chrome is that it reflects the room back to you. The candlelight, the green of a plant, the soft blur of a window at dusk. A pop of chrome does not demand attention. It quietly redirects it.

My favourite way to use it is in small, functional things. The cup I reach for in the morning. The tray that catches my keys. The lamp I turn on while I write. They earn their place by being useful, and then they make the ordinary feel a little more considered.

Below is every chrome and silver piece I love right now, grouped so you can find your own pop of shine. Some are investment-ish. Some are under $25. All of them play nicely with wood, linen, marble, and whatever you already own.
